OCTOBER IS WORLD ALZHEIMER’S MONTH
To mark this October, we want to share some brief information about Alzheimer’s Disease. Alzheimer’s is the most common cause of dementia, affecting 1 in 10 people over 65 and over one third of people over 85. It is a slow, progressive illness that damages nerve cells in the brain. Symptoms include:
● forgetfulness severe enough to affect work, hobbies, or social life
● mood changes
● difficulty multi-tasking
● misplacing things
● repeating things
● confusion
● trouble with organizing and expressing thoughts
● becoming disoriented or lost in familiar places
There is no cure for Alzheimer’s Disease but there are strategies that help manage symptoms:

○ Controls Blood sugar and blood pressure
● Exercising Your Mind
○ Keeps life interesting

● Reducing Stress
○ Improves memory, concentration
○ Strengthens immune system
● Finding Meaning and Purpose
○ Gives a reason to wake up in the morning
○ Improves self-confidence and self-esteem
● Keeping relationships Strong
○ Increases brain power by improving the minds’ reserves
○ Promotes a longer, healthier life
● Managing Your Health
○ Helps you stay well and live independently
○ Lowers long term healthcare costs
● Establishing a Routine
○ Helps you form healthy habits that support memory and independent living.
○ Helps you plan ahead to ensure you keep busy and stay active.
