Feb. 2 4th Sunday of Epiphany and Communion Sunday

Scriptures: Luke 4: 1-30, 42-44 (Jesus preaches in his hometown, the crowds are thrilled, but then turn on him, wanting to throw him off a cliff).

Preacher: Pastor Kathy

Sermon Title: “Oh my!”

Jesus certainly experienced a reversal of fortune as the crowds switch from loving to hating him. He clearly was not always popular. How do we handle dramatic changes around us?

Feb. 9 5th Sunday after Epiphany

Scripture: Luke 5:1-11 (Jesus calls the first disciples)

Preacher: Katie Gant

Sermon Title: The Big Catch

Fishermen had been fishing all day, but with no luck. Jesus tells them to cast out their nets in a different spot. They followed Jesus’ command, and their nets filled so full they began to break and their boat began to sink from all the fish. Jesus called the fishermen to be his first disciples and be fishers of people. How does this story speak to us today and what does it mean to be “fishers of people”?

Feb. 16 6th Sunday after Epiphany

Scriptures: Luke 6: 17-26 (Blessings and Woes)

Preacher: Pastor Kathy

Sermon Title: “Blessings?”

The Beatitudes are a beloved passage from scripture, but do they have a message for us today, and if so, what is it? In the history of the world, we are the country with the most wealth and resources – so what do we do with a message like this?

Feb. 23 7th Sunday after Epiphany

Scripture: Luke 6: 27-38 (Love for enemies, do not judge, forgive and you will be forgiven, give and it will be given to you…)

Preacher: Pastor Kathy

Sermon Title: “Surprise!”

How do we love our enemies and not be a doormat? Let’s unpack some of these verses and see what Jesus is really saying!

March 2 Transfiguration Sunday & Communion Sunday

Scripture: Luke 9: 28-36 (Jesus is transfigured in front of his friends).

Preacher: Pastor Kathy

Sermon Title: “The Holy One”

All of us share God’s divinity, but during the transfiguration, Jesus’ friends saw him Radiant with the holiness of God. This is our last Sunday before we begin Lent. Let’s talk about the goodness and holiness that is entrusted to us!
